PTI’s Omar Cheema appointed new Punjab governor
LAHORE: Government has appointed Omar Cheema as Governor Punjab after Chaudhry Sarwar was sacked from the position earlier in the day.
Federal Minister for Information and Broadcasting made the announcement in a tweet from his official handle.

Earlier in the day, in a surprising turn of events, the federal government has removed Chaudhry Muhammad Sarwar as Governor Punjab.
Federal Minister for Information and Broadcasting Fawad Chaudhry on Sunday said that government will announce the new appointee later on.

The minister further said that Deputy Speaker of Punjab Assembly will be acting Governor Punjab.
A private TV has claimed that Punjab Governor Chaudhry Sarwar was removed over the backdoor contacts with the Aleem Khan group.
The Prime Minister was informed that Chaudhry Sarwar Aleem was supporting the group.
It may be recalled that Governor Punjab Chaudhry Muhammad Sarwar took oath of office on September 5, 2018. In the past, Chaudhry Muhammad Sarwar also became the Governor of Punjab in 2013.
