The newly-elected members of the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Assembly elected on Friday Pakistan Terheek-e-Insaf’s (PTI) nominee Ali Amin Gandapur as the chief minister of the province.
Gandapur, nominated by the PTI, clinched the coveted slot against Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz’s candidate Ibadullah Khan, securing 90 votes to Ibadullah’s 16.
In his address, the newly elected CM set a one-week deadline to dismiss first information reports (FIRs) against PTI workers, decrying the “injustice and cruelty” against Imran and other party members.
He warned of consequences if the FIRs remained unresolved, emphasizing his commitment to addressing them.
Gandapur, a former federal minister and current Member National Assembly (MNA) and Provincial Assembly elect from the 2024 general elections, was nominated by PTI founder Imran Khan in February.
However, reports suggest Gandapur is embroiled in multiple assault and corruption cases across various police stations.
During a casual conversation with local journalists on February 19, Gandapur expressed his intent to prioritize the mineral and tourism sectors while asserting the provincial government’s authority under the 18th Amendment.
He emphasized the PTI’s dedication to securing the rights of the province’s people, affirming a willingness to resort to measures like a long march if necessary.
On February 28, Speaker Mushtaq Ahmad Ghani administered the oath to the newly-elected provincial assembly members.
