ISLAMABAD: The delegation of government is continuously holding meetings with allies to get their support in no-confidence motion against the prime minister.
A meeting with representatives of Muttahida Qaumi Movement-Pakistan (MQM-P) was held at the Parliament Lodges to discuss the prevailing political situation in the country. Governor Sindh Imran Ismail, Planning Minister Asad Umar and Foreign Minister Shah Mahmood Qureshi were present.
Talking to media, Shah Mahmood Qureshi expressed hope that MQM-P will support Prime Minister Imran Khan in the motion in the national assembly. He said that PML-Q leader Chaudhary Pervez Elahi has announced to support Imran Khan which is a welcome step.
In a bid to garner the support of its allies, te PTI government has offered to give another ministry to the MQM, mostly likely the highly-prized Minister of Ports and Shipping, sources revealed.
During the meeting, the MQM presented its demands before the government, including the construction of permanent offices and release of party workers. The government assured the party that all its grievances would be addressed and all the promises made to it in the past will be fulfilled.
However MQM leader Wasim Akhtar said that the party has so far not reached any agreements with the government. “We presented our demands before the government and they have sought one or two days to resolve our issues,” he said while speaking to a private channel.
Regarding the PML-Q, the senior MQM-P leader said: “PML-Q is concerned with their own politics, we are making our own political decisions.” He further mentioned that the MQM-P does not have any inclination and is focused on the resolving its issues. When asked whether the party will accept a ministry from the government, Akhtar said they will only change course of action once their demands are met.
