Chief Minister (CM) Punjab, Maryam Nawaz Sharif, inaugurated the ‘Aqua Shrimp Farming Internship Programme’ aimed at the youth, according to ARY News.
During her address, Maryam Nawaz emphasized that practical training in shrimp farming would be provided to young individuals holding degrees in Fisheries, Aquaculture, and Zoology. She also mentioned that the interns would receive a monthly stipend of Rs 50,000 for six months.
According to the report, Maryam Nawaz highlighted the potential benefits for shrimp farmers from the global demand, stating, “Young Zoologists will be trained at the Fisheries Department’s shrimp farm in Muzaffargarh.”
The chief minister added that interested individuals could apply for the internships online through a job portal website. Maryam Nawaz further stated that shrimp farming on just 100,000 acres could generate more than US$1 billion in foreign exchange.
On October 28, Maryam Nawaz Sharif also launched the ‘Kisan Card Programme’ in Hafizabad, designed to offer vital financial assistance to small farmers. Under this initiative, farmers can obtain loans of up to Rs 150,000 per crop season to purchase seeds, fertilizers, and pesticides using their Kisan Cards.
At the Hafizabad launch event, CM Maryam Nawaz revealed that the programme’s budget had been increased, raising the number of Kisan Cards from 500,000 to 750,000. Additionally, she announced that farmers owning more than 25 acres of land would receive free tractors. The chief minister also mentioned that agricultural equipment would be rented to farmers at no profit.
