The Court on the night of January 25 had granted police two-day physical remand of Fawad, hours after he was arrested for what had been described as “inciting violence against a constitutional institution”.

A large number of PTI workers and leaders had gathered around district and session court when Fawad Chaudhry was brought before the judge. The workers chanted anti-government slogans, which continued during the course of the proceedings due to which the staff had to shut down the court room’s windows.

During the hearing today, the prosecutor told Judicial Magistrate Waqas Ahmad Raja that Fawad is spreading hatred against the constitutional institution and is also trying to create unrest.

The prosecutor contended before the court that the former federal minister was inciting hatred against a constitutional institution. “Fawad is trying to create unrest,” he said. “The statement threatens the lives of the election commission’s workers.”
“[His] statement is a threat to the lives of ECP’s members,” the prosecutor said informing the court that Fawad’s voice has been matched and his photogrammetry test has to be carried out in Lahore.
The prosecutor informed the court that the PTI leader’s voice matching had been completed. He requested an extension in remand as Fawad had to be taken to Lahore for a photogrammetric test.

The prosecutor requested the court to extend the physical remand for further investigations, claiming that practically they could get only one day of remand, and that the police needed to search his residence for laptop and other equipment believing that an entire group was involved behind anti-ECP rhetoric.
It may be recalled that Fawad Chaudhry was arrested from his Lahore residence in the wee hours of Wednesday after he criticized members of the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP), and called them ‘Munshi’ ( a junior subordinate of an accountant-cum-manager).
