KARACHI: The Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) is also set to hold a political rally in Karachi today on Sunday.
The ruling party in Sindh is expected to use the opportunity as a rallying point against the federal government which has raised the prices of petrol and gain a foothold in Karachi after an impressive performance in the cantonment elections.
The rally will be held at the Bagh-e-Jinnah to pay homage to the party’s activists and supporters who were martyred in a bomb blast targeting former prime minister Benazir Bhutto’s homecoming rally near Karsaz on 18th October 2007.
PPP Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari and other prominent party leaders are expected to address the political gathering. All provincial and local party leaders have been directed to ensure the rally’s participants follow complete Covid SOPs.
PPP Sindh president Nisar Khuhro along with senior party workers visited the venue on Saturday evening and was briefed about the arrangements. According to reports, PPP chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari held several meetings within a week where he stressed stronger participation in the public meeting from the Karachi division.
Security arrangements have been made at Bagh-i-Jinnah with the assistance of police and local administration. A large number of party workers have made arrangements for the rally.
The Karsaz attack occurred on 18 October 2007 on a convoy carrying former Prime Minister Benazir Bhutto who had returned to the country from self-exile. At least 180 people were killed and 500 injuries in the tragic incident.
