There has been a significant reduction in the circular debt of the power sector, which has sparked a wave of happiness among electricity consumers, as the chances of electricity becoming cheaper have increased.
According to details, power division officials have admitted that the circular debt of the power sector has decreased by Rs. 700 billion, bringing the circular debt down from Rs. 2,300 billion to Rs. 1,600 billion.
Power officials state that the reduction in circular debt is due to lower electricity losses and improved recoveries by DISCOs, while savings have also started to materialize from agreements with IPPs.
On the other hand, on Monday, NEPRA completed the hearing on the fourth quarterly adjustment request for the year 2024–25 and reserved the decision.
The report states that after a detailed review of the statistics, a decision will be issued, and under the quarterly adjustment, electricity is expected to become cheaper by Rs. 1.80 per unit, and this relief will also apply to K-Electric.
It is worth mentioning here that due to overbilling across the country and the steep rise in electricity rates after 200 units, a large section of the public is facing difficulties. In such a situation, the development regarding a decrease in electricity prices is no less than a breath of fresh air in people’s lives.
