Pop singer Dua Lipa has denounced Israeli military operations in Gaza, calling them as “Israeli genocide” in an Instagram post.
Although Lipa has consistently supported Palestinian rights, this is her most outspoken criticism of Israel regarding the issue in her remarks.
“Burning children alive can never be justified. The whole world is mobilising to stop the Israeli genocide. Please show your solidarity with Gaza,” she wrote on her Instagram account which is followed by a massive 88 million people. She also reposted an image from the collective Artists4Ceasefire, accompanied by the trending hashtag #AllEyesOnRafah in the wake of Israel’s bombardment of the Palestinian city.
In December, she wrote: “With each passing day, my heart aches for the people of Israel and Palestine. Grief for the lives lost in the horrifying attacks in Israel. Grief as I witness the unprecedented suffering in Gaza, where 2.2m souls, half of them children, endure unimaginable hardships. For now, I desperately hope for a ceasefire in Gaza and urge governments to halt the unfolding crisis. Our hope lies in finding the empathy to recognise this dire humanitarian situation. Sending love to Palestinian and Jewish communities worldwide, who bear this burden more heavily than most.”
She re-posted an Instagram post in 2020 criticizing the IDF and advocating for Palestinian independence, before to the conflict’s 2023 escalation.
The next year, the Jewish organization The World Values Network singled out Lipa and models Gigi and Bella Hadid for criticism in a New York Times advertisement. They labeled the women as antisemitic and wrote, “Hamas calls for a second Holocaust.” Condemn them right away.
