In a cruel incident, a couple in Lahore’s Gulberg area attempted to sell five-month-old baby girl for Rs. 600,000, but thankfully, the police’s timely intervention prevented the attempt and arrested the couple along with a third individual involved in the deal.
As per police officials, a man named Ravi first bought the child from her parents at Rs. 300,000. Ravi, assisted by two of his accomplices—Gul Zaib and a woman named Nirmal—then tried to sell the child for twice the price.
Following a tip-off, the police carried out a rapid operation, arresting all three suspects. The authorities also retrieved two mobile phones and a vehicle that were utilized in the attempted sale. The baby has since been taken into custody by the Child Protection Bureau and will be accorded due protection and legal assistance.
A formal case has been filed against the accused. The authorities confirmed that legal action shall also be taken against the parents for their role in the original transaction.
The case has caused public indignation and increased demands for increased enforcement of the country’s child protection laws.
