LONDON: Former Pakistani Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif, who was disqualified for life by the Supreme Court after failing to disclose the means of his London-based properties, is expected to visit Saudi Arabia in the last ten days of the Holy month of Ramazan.
The PMLN supremo is currently enjoys the status of ‘absconder’ since he failed to appear in courts despite being summoned repeatedly. He was granted permission by the Lahore High Court in November 2019 on the guarantee of Shehbaz Sharif to travel abroad on medical grounds for treatment, but since then, he has never been admitted to any hospital.
According to sources privy to the matter, Nawaz Sharif will spend the last 10 days of Ramadan in Mecca and Medina.
Media sources affiliated with the ruling party PMLN claim that Nawaz Sharif will be a state guest as the King of Saudi Arabia has invited him.
There are also reports that if everything goes well in Pakistan, as per the strategy of the ruling PDM, Shehbaz Sharif and Maryam Nawaz will also leave for Saudi Arabia to celebrate Eid there and bring back Nawaz Sharif on an official plane.
It is pertinent to mention that only last year, doctors had advised the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz against Umrah pilgrimage to the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia (KSA). His arrival in Pakistan is expected to have significant political implications after Shehbaz Sharif-led federal government, comprising several coalition partners, failed to deliver to the masses as per their promises despite exhausting all of their political capital.
