PML-N, JUI-F workers stage protest demonstration in Rawalpindi

RAWALPINDI: Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) and Jamiat Ulema-e-Islamabad-Fazl have staged a protest rally against rising inflation and unemployment in the country.

The workers of the PML-N and JUI_F reached Murree Road after crossing police barricades and observed sit-in. The protestors are chanting slogans of ‘gas thief’ ‘flour thief’ in the demonstration.

The rally is being held following the announcement by the party leadership to hold the first countrywide protest in Rawalpindi against inflation from today.

The decision to hold rally was made in a high-level meeting of the party held under the chairmanship of PML-N President and Opposition Leader in National Assembly Shehbaz Sharif. The meeting decided to take direct action to protect the rights of the people.

The meeting was attended by former premier Shahid Khaqan Abbasi, Ahsan Iqbal, Khawaja Saad Rafique, Marriyum Aurangzeb, presidents and general secretaries of the party from four provinces, including Azad Jammu & Kashmir (AJK) and Gilgit-Baltistan (GB).

Interior Minister Sheikh Rasheed has said they have no objection to the protests of opposition parties if they remain within the ambit of the law.

Talking to the media persons in Rawalpindi on Wednesday, he however said the opposition should not pursue the course of creating anarchy in the country.

The Interior Minister said Prime Minister Imran Khan is personally monitoring the situation regarding inflation. He said the Prime Minister will complete his mandated tenure.

To a question, he said the country’s armed forces are fully prepared to defend the homeland. He said Pakistan Navy once again tracked and blocked the Indian submarine from entering Pakistan’s waters.
