ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Imran Khan has sought details of gas theft and waste taking into account the declining gas reserves in view of the gas crisis across the country.
According to details, in a recent meeting of the federal cabinet chaired by PM Imran Khan, Federal Minister for Energy Hammad Azhar, while giving a briefing, said that gas reserves are nearing depletion which has reduced to 9 percent per annum.
Briefing cabinet members, Hammad Azhar said that if new gas reserves were not discovered, the gas would be completely depleted in the coming years. Only imported gas will be made available to industries and domestic consumers across the country, he maintained.

Hammad Azhar said that new LNG terminals were being constructed to augment the imported gas. Steps will also be taken to build a gas pipeline with the cooperation of Russia. The prime minister took note of the decline in gas production.
PM Imran Khan directed the concerned ministry during the cabinet meeting to prepare a report on gas theft and waste and sought details of the gas crisis. The prime minister also directed the launch of projects for the improvement of gas reserves.
