Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif on Thursday announced a Rs. 7.41Â per unit reduction in the electricity prices for domestic consumers and a Rs. 7.59 per unit reduction for industrial consumers.Â
After the reduction, the domestic consumers will now pay Rs. 34 per unit.
He made this announcement in a ceremony in Islamabad and termed the reduction an Eid gift for the nation. In his address, the pm mentioned the difficulties the economy was facing last year and the government’s efforts to drag the economy out of the crisis and save the country from default.
He also thanked Army Chief General Asim Muneer and his team for helping the government to overcome the economic crisis. He also hinted at further down sizing in the government organization and the privatisation of more institutions for economic stability.
The pm claimed that the economy has now come out of the dark and is heading towards to light and stability. He said that the night is about to end and the sun is about to rise, now there is no place for a man in this government including him, who wastes the time of the nation anymore.
He also mentioned the government’s struggle to convince the IMF of a reduction in the electricity prices.
During his address, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif said the electricity price for domestic consumers was Rs48.70, while this year, electricity price for domestic consumers had been reduced by Rs3.50. He then announced that the electricity price for domestic consumers was being reduced by Rs7.41 and that all domestic consumers would get electricity at Rs34 per unit.
Moreover, the PM stated that the price of electricity per unit for industry was Rs58.50, and by now, that price had reached Rs48 with a decrease of Rs10. He then announced a reduction of Rs7.59 per unit for industry.
