ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Imran Khan has ordered a crackdown against sugar mafia for sugar scam in the country.
Special Assistant to the Prime Minister on Accountability Shahzad Akbar in this regard has written a letter to the provincial governments, the Competition Commission of Pakistan (CCP), and the State Bank of Pakistan (SBP) on the directive of Prime Minister Imran Khan.
In a letter, the government has directed the provincial governments, CCP, and SBP to investigate violations by sugar mills in accordance with their rules.
The Federal Board of Revenue (FBR), National Accountability Bureau (NAB), Securities and Exchange Commission of Pakistan (SECP), Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) have been assigned responsibility to hold an inquiry on sugar scam, the letter stated.
