The move by the defense ministry came three days after a meeting between Finance Minister Ishaq Dar and President Arif Alvi, during which it was agreed that the President would act as per advice of the Prime Minister regarding the appointment of new Army Chief.
MM News has learnt that five names are mentioned in the summary. The new army chief will take charge on November 29 as the incumbent General Qamar Javed Bajwa would doff his uniform the same day after completing six years in office.
It may be added here that as per the seniority list, Lt General Asim Munir, Lt General Sahir Shamshad Mirza, Lt General Azhar Abbas, Lt General Numan Mahmud and Lt General Faiz Hameed are in contention for the job of chairman joint chiefs of staff committee and the army chief.
The development today coincides with an earlier statement by Khawaja Asif who was quoted as having said two days back that the appointment process will start on Monday while the new chief will be appointed on Tuesday or Wednesday.
