ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Imran Khan on Monday launched the countrywide monsoon plantation drive in Islamabad.
Speaking on the occasion, the prime minister asked the people to fully participate in the tree plantation campaign to enhance the country’s forest cover. The prime minister also planted an avocado sapling at F-9 Park Islamabad.
He said it is unfortunate that Pakistan’s forest cover is very less when compared with other regional countries as this matter was neglected in the past. “We have to turn Pakistan green to fight global warming and offset the impact of pollution,” he said.
PM Imran Khan said it will bring a big revolution if each person plants at least one sapling during the next three weeks. He said commissioners and deputy commissioners have been directed to ensure plantation at empty spaces in cities. He said our aim is to leave behind a better Pakistan for future generations.
PM Imran Khan said the government’s ten billion tree Tsunami project and plantation of one billion trees in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa is widely acknowledged across the world. He said Pakistan is now recogniszed as a leading country taking steps to reverse carbon emissions.
The federal capital has witnessed a massive reduction in tree cover, particularly in the last two decades. The government has carried out a massive tree plantation campaign under the Clean and Green Pakistan Initiative to improve the green cover.
On Saturday, Prime Minister Imran Khan once again urged the nation to fully participate in the government’s monsoon tree plantation drive and turn Pakistan into a green country.
The prime minister planted a pine tree in Nathiagali over the weekend. “Planting pine trees in Nathia (Gali) as part of our monsoon tree plantation campaign. I want our whole nation to participate in the greening of Pakistan,” he said in a tweet.
The prime minister had been consistently motivating people especially youth to actively take part in the country’s biggest tree plantation campaign. He also made references to the monsoon tree plantation drive in the country under his government’s much ambitious 10 Billion Tree Tsunami project and Green and Clean Pakistan initiative.
