ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Imran Khan now has more than 14 million followers on his Twitter account, becoming the most-followed Pakistani politician on the microblogging website.
PM Imran Khan is among the most-followed politicians on Twitter across the world and he not only keeps an active presence on the microblogging site, but the premier also has whopping 10 million followers on Facebook and another 5 million on Instagram.
Back in July, a study was published according to which Khan emerged as the ninth most followed world leader on microblogging site Twitter, registering a 22 percent growth in followers on his official account.
The 2020 study by Burson Cohn & Wolfe (BCW) — a public relations and communications firm — focused on tweets by world leaders during the coronavirus pandemic, monitored their reach and the overall flow of accurate information.
US President Donald Trump was reported to be the most followed world leader with more than 81 million followers while Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi came second ahead of Pope Francis who has 51 million followers on his nine different language accounts.
Aside from that, the Khan was also named among Time magazine’s ‘100 Most Influential People’ of 2019. In today’s day and age, politicians use social media as a means to communicate decisions as well as propagate views — and Pakistan’s politicians are not behind anyone in the practice.
PML-N Vice-President Maryam Nawaz boasts a following of 6.1 million, PPP Chairman Bilawal Bhutto-Zardari too is seen actively tweeting to his audience of 4.2 million.
