ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister (PM) Imran Khan will address the nation today on Thursday at 7.30PM as he seeks a vote of confidence from the lawmakers.
Federal Minister for Information and Broadcasting Shibli Faraz said the prime minister will apprise the nation about a range of issues after the Senate elections following consultations with senior party leaders and government allies.
While speaking to a private channel, Shibli Faraz said a special session of the National Assembly will be held in which the prime minister will take a vote of confidence. The prime minister has reportedly directed party MNAs to stay in Islamabad until the session of the National Assembly summoned for vote confidence on Saturday.
He added that PM Imran Khan has nominated Sadiq Sanjrani as the candidate for Senate Chairmanship by the government keeping in mind his performance over the past three years.
In response to a question, the minister said that the PTI is currently focused on the aftermath of the Senate elections and legal action can be taken against PTI parliamentarians who voted other than the party’s candidates after an inquiry is conducted against them.
Shibli Faraz said that the prime minister will be seeking a vote of confidence from the parliament in line with universally accepted democratic principles and the decision was being hailed by people across the country as it was an unprecedented step in the country’s history.
Faraz said that the PTI had won its share of the seats in the upper house and had only lost one seat in the Senate. He confirmed that all PTI’s lawmakers will vote for the prime minister when the vote of confidence takes place and added that the prime minister does politics of principles.
Prime Minister Imran Khan will seek a vote of confidence from the National Assembly on Saturday to limit the opposition’s ability to challenge his government.
In this regard, President Arif Alvi has convened a session of the National Assembly at 12:15PM on Saturday. The government has barred all MNAs from leaving Islamabad.
The decision comes after the government coalition-backed candidate Dr Abdul Hafeez Shaikh lost a Senate seat from Islamabad to the joint candidate of the Pakistan Democratic Movement (PDM) Yousuf Raza Gilani.
