ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Imran Khan on Friday directed the authorities concerned to bring down the prices of essential items ahead of the holy month.
Presiding over a meeting in Bani Gala on Wednesday, PM Imran directed the concerned authorities to keep a watchful eye on hoarders and profiteers during the holy month. He also instructed to provide ‘Iftar and Sehri’ to the homeless families residing in Panahgahs.
Inflation will fall in the coming days, PM Imran said, adding that the country’s economy will improve soon. During the meeting, the prime minister vowed to take indiscriminate and across-the-board action against the mafias.
PM Imran also instructed to ensure uninterrupted availability of essential items at the Utility Stores and continuously apprising him on monitoring of prices.
Lashing out at hoarders and profiteers, Prime Minister Imran Khan said that he himself will monitor the prices of essential items during the holy month of Ramazan.
Earlier, the federal cabinet had sanctioned a historic Ramazan package worth Rs 7.8 billion for providing 19 essential items at reduced prices.
Prime Minister Imran Khan chaired the meeting of the federal cabinet which approved the package to provide relief during the holy month of Ramazan.
The cabinet was told that due to the government efforts the sales of Utility Stores had increased from Rs6 billion to Rs9 billion and the stores will achieve breakeven in the expenditure and revenue this year.
The cabinet while acknowledging the importance of the “Koi Bhooka Na Soye” (No one sleeps hungry) programme noticed the project was providing substantial relief to the poor people.
Special Assistant to Prime Minister on Social Protection Dr Sania Nishtar said that philanthropists in Pakistan and abroad had expressed interest in becoming part of the programme.
The cabinet was apprised about the plan to give targeted subsidies to poor people under the Ehsaas programme. The prime minister instructed that the programme should be finalized as soon as possible so that the subsidy could be given to the needy people as early as possible.
