ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Imran Khan has chaired a meeting to review the measures to contain the coronavirus pandemic and the latest situation in the country.
According to a press release, federal ministers, including Hammad Azhar, Asad Umar, Special Assistant on Health Dr Zafar Mirza, Dr Firdous Ashiq Awan, Dr Moeed Yousaf, Focal Person on Corona Dr Faisal Sultan, NDMA Chairman Lt Gen Muhammad Afzal and other senior officials attended the meeting.
On the occasion, PM Imran said that the federal government was striving to maintain a balance by containing the spread of coronavirus and running the economy.
PM Imran was apprised that the coronavirus infection testing capacity in the country would reach 20,000 per day by the end of the current month.
The Prime Minister also said, “It was cognizant of the problems being faced by the traders’ community and was making efforts, under its recent decisions, to resolve those issues with the cooperation of the provincial governments.” PM Imran directed the authorities to formulate an effective strategy for maintaining social distancing. He also observed that wider public awareness should be created over its importance.
Citing the example of sovereign countries, he said that public cooperation was sought through involvement of the people over the issues of national importance instead of using force.
Commenting on the medical staff, PM Imran said that the paramedical staff was on the front line in the fight against the coronavirus. He also assured that the government would fulfill their requirements.
Referring to his meeting with the Ulema, PM Imran expressed satisfaction that religious scholars had taken responsibility for implementation of the 20-point strategy.
On the occasion, SAPM Dr Zafar Mirza gave a comprehensive briefing to the prime minister on the latest situation on coronavirus.
Minister for Planning Asad Umar also apprised PM Imran about the National Command and Operation Center’s steps to prevent coronavirus.
The NDMA chairman said the coronavirus related material from the third consignment was dispatched to 408 hospitals, whereas it would be doubled with the fourth consignment.
