ISLAMABAD: Minister Imran Khan has given approval to the summary prepared by the Ministry of Interior to ban Tehreek-e-Labbaik Pakistan (TLP).
According to sources, the federal cabinet will approve the ban on TLP through a circular summary. This important decision will be made in the next 24 hours.
Addressing a press conference, Interior Minister Sheikh Rashid Ahmed said the religious-cum-political party will be banned under than Anti-Terrorist Act (ATA) Section 1997/11-B. He said the decision was made due to the party’s recent activities including the abduction of policemen and destroying of public property.
The minister said that at least two police officers embraced martyrdom while 340 others were injured during the recent protests while the party’s workers also held several policemen hostage to compel the government to accept their demands.
He clarified that no case registered against TLP activists regarding violence during protests will be withdrawn. He also urged members of the party’s social media wing to surrender themselves before law enforcement agencies. The minister said that a detailed summary will be forwarded to the federal cabinet to outlaw the party.
Following the three-day protest staged by a religious party in the country which led to chaos and the killing of three people, including two policemen, the Federal Ministry of Interior has issued a detailed report related to arrests made in this regard.
Some 2,135 protesters have been arrested from across the country, out of which 1,669 were from Punjab and 228 were from Sindh, according to the report of the Interior Ministry.
The report was further detailed that 193 people were arrested from Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, while 45 were taken into custody from the federal capital of Islamabad.
The government has registered cases against the protesters under the country’s anti-terrorism laws for creating chaos, vandalizing public and private properties, and beating and killed of police personnel. Nearly 100 policemen were left injured during clashes with the protesters.
in the last few days, protests were organised by a religious party in different cities, while sit-ins were also staged in many parts of the country, causing massive traffic jams and distress to the citizens.
Bilawal condemns TLP’s violence
Chairman Pakistan Peoples Party Bilawal Bhutto Zardari has strongly condemned violence in different parts of the country during the last three days.
The PPP chairman, in a statement, lamented the violence in “which two policemen among seven people were killed in different incidents”.
the PPP chairman said, “This kind of violence, ransacking, vandalizing public and private properties and mob-attacks on policemen could not be allowed to go unchecked.”
“This week’s naked violence shows that the selected regime has dragged the country into a deadly quagmire, where no one is safe … under the PTI regime, even the police seems to be in need of protection, as the govt has abandoned the people.”
