CTD nabs Lyari gang-war member, recovers arms

KARACHI: Counter-Terrorism Department (CTD) has apprehended an active member of the Lyari gang trying to regroup criminals in the metropolis.
According to sources, the arrested accused, Naseer a hardened criminal and close aide of Zahid Ladla, a brother of slain gangster Baba Ladla. On a tip-off, the accused was arrested near the Tower area of the metropolis on Wednesday, sources said.
Naseer was involved in scores of murder and extortion crimes. After a crackdown against criminal gangs in the Lyari operation, he fled from Karachi and went into hiding in Balochistan, according to sources, adding the accused was trying to regroup criminals in a new gang.
The CTD officials also claimed to have recovered a Kalashnikov, several bullets mobile phones and drugs from the suspect’s possession.
On March 30, Police have arrested a suspect who is the son of slain Lyari gang war kingpin Rehman Dakait, on drug-peddling charges in Karachi’s Lyari.
City Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Sarfraz Nawaz Sheikh said on a tip-off, Kalakot police arrested drug peddler Sarban near Wali Mohammed Hasanali Road, adding that the suspect is a son of notorious criminal Rehman.
SSP Sarfraz said the suspect was involved in the supply of drugs in different parts of the city. “He is a habitual criminal who was also booked in a murder case,” the police official said.
Police claimed to have seized 1,520 kilograms of hashish, 50 grams of ice and 60 grams of crystal meth from the possession of the arrested accused. Police have registered a case against him and started an investigation to seek information about his accomplices.
In 2009, Abdul Rehman Baloch, better known as Rehman Dakait, was killed by Karachi police, along with three of his accomplices. Rehman was reportedly involved in more than 80 criminal cases and was a central figure in the gang wars of Lyari — one of the most populous and oldest localities of Karachi.
