PM emphasises on early implementation of LG system

LAHORE: Prime Minister Imran Khan has emphasised on early implementation of local government system while directing to complete the plan in this regard on time.

Chairing a high level meeting on Punjab Municipal Services Program, the prime minister said the incumbent government has brought a revolution in Pakistan with the establishment of local government system. He said cities can be improved only with the implementation of an effective administrative system.

PM Imran Khan said the local government system is aimed at empowering people at the grass root level so that they could make the decisions affecting their development and resolve their problems by themselves.

The prime minister was informed that elections of village panchayats and neighbourhood councils will be held in March next year while the elections of local, municipal and tehsil councils have been scheduled for May

PM Khan was apprised of progress on implementation of the local government system. He was also given a detailed briefing on Punjab Municipal Services Program.

Senior officials of local government and community development department apprised the prime minister on details of planning in this regard.

The meeting was attended by Education Minister Shafqat Mahmood, Special Assistant Dr Firdous Ashiq Awan, Punjab Chief Minister Usman Buzdar, Provincial Law Minister Basharat Raja, Provincial Finance Minister Hashim Jawan Bakht, Provincial Housing Minister Mian Mehmood ur Rashid and other senior officials.
