KARACHI: Sindh High Court on Monday extended the petition that sought a court order on local bodies polls in the province till 15th April.
A bench of the high court conducted the hearing of a petitioner that stated that the four-year tenure of present local councils would come to an end on 30 August this year.
Provincial chief secretary, chief election commissioner and secretary Election Commission of Pakistan have made a party in the petition.
According to the petition, the district bodies in Sindh had finished their four-year tenures in various urban areas and regions, including Karachi, however, in spite of the achievement of the term, the government and the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) were not finding a way to hold the nearby bodies elections.
During the hearing in this regard, the court directed the government to submit its reply over fresh elections of local councils in the province on the designated date adding that the reply of the provincial government over the matter is essential.
