LAHORE: The Lahore High Court has extended the case hearing of plastic bags being used across Punjab for 7 days.
LHC Justice Shahid Kareem conducted the hearing in which the judge ordered a complete ban on polythene bags and grant two weeks deadline to work on it.
During the hearing, the judge remarked that polythene bags would be banned across Punjab in the next phase. He also ordered the authorities to ban the production of polythene bags.
In the last hearing, the judge in his remarks directed the shops and companies that produce plastic to switch from it to alternative bags within two weeks. In the next phase, the court would ban the use of plastic material in the restaurants and bakeries, he remarked.
Plastic bags are used for containing goods such as foods, produce, powders, ice, magazines, chemicals, and waste. Every year, about 1 to 5 trillion plastic bags are used and discarded around the world.
