Sindh Information Minister Sharjeel Inam Memon has announced an extension in the operating hours of the Peoples Bus Service in Karachi during the holy month of Ramadan.
Speaking to the media, the provincial minister stated that from the 15th of Ramazan onwards, the bus service will continue running late into the night. The decision aims to facilitate commuters, particularly as shopping and other activities intensify in the lead-up to Eid.
The move is expected to provide relief to residents who rely on public transport, ensuring they can travel conveniently even during late hours.
In addition to the public transport announcement, Memon issued a strong warning to businesses and organizations regarding salary payments to employees. He stated that any entity failing to disburse salaries on time could face government action, including the suspension of business operations. He emphasized that this measure aims to protect workers’ rights and ensure financial stability for employees during Ramazan.
Commenting on political developments, the minister reiterated the Pakistan Peoples Party’s (PPP) firm stance against the Cholistan Canal project, signaling the party’s opposition to the initiative.
Furthermore, addressing concerns over the recent allocation of ministries to Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) leaders, Memon affirmed that MQM rightfully deserves these ministries as they are part of the government.
The Peoples Bus Service, a public transport initiative by the Sindh government, has been instrumental in providing Karachi’s residents with an affordable and efficient travel option.
Launched to address the city’s chronic traffic congestion and insufficient public transport infrastructure, the service operates on several key routes, connecting major residential, commercial, and industrial areas, including Saddar, Korangi, and Malir.
The service has been particularly beneficial for daily commuters, offering a reliable alternative to private vehicles and overcrowded public transport options.
The extension in service hours during Ramadan is expected to accommodate the increased travel demands of Karachi’s residents, particularly those heading to markets, shopping centers, and mosques during the late evening hours.
