QUETTA: Pakistan People’s Party Chairperson Bilawal Bhutto today (Sunday) has asserted that no matter which province, the people want freedom and a democratic government.
Bilawal who could not attend the jalsa due to campaign activities in Gilgit-Baltistan, had earlier directed his party workers and supporters to make the public gathering a success.
“The people of Pakistan want freedom from poverty and unemployment, to be able to think for themselves and breathe,” he said while addressing the third power show of 11-party opposition, via video link, under the banner of Pakistan Democratic Movement (PDM).
The PPP Chairperson asked, “Will Balochistan’s people always be neglected? What sort of a democracy is this where the media isn’t free and neither is the judiciary.”
Referring to PPP’s tenure, Bilawal Bhutto claimed that during his party tenure, then president Asif Ali Zardari had not only asked for forgiveness [from Balochistan] on behalf of the state but started something that could have provided what they were deprived of.
“In the form of 18th Amendment, Zardari restored democracy. We fulfilled Balochistan’s demand for provincial autonomy in the form of 18th Amendment,” Bilawal added.
He further said, “Today, in Balochistan, it reminds me of the incident of Akbar Bugti,” adding, “How a dictator showed his fist. And then a democratic leader was assassinated. His family and followers were not allowed to see his face for one last time.”
He went on the say that when a court sentenced that Pervez Musharraf to death, that court was dissolved. “It is the demand of the people of Pakistan that the vote should be respected. Obey your oath and Constitution,” he concluded.
