KARACHI: A team of artists painted a beautiful picture of ace mountaineer Muhammad Ali Sadpara on Karachi’s Hassan Square Bridge in order to pay tribute to the legend, who went missing while climbing the K2 on February 9.
The initiative was taken by a non-profit organization (NGO) in collaboration with Karachi Metropolitan Corporation (KMC). The artists painted a memorial portrait of Sadpara using Truck Art.
JDC General Secretary Zafar Abbas invited the people of Karachi to take a selfie with a wall picture of Muhammad Ali Sadpara and win a prize. “We had held the activity to express the love of Karachi for the climber,” he added.
Talking to journalists, Zafar Abbas pointed out the achievements of Sapara, saying that the late mountaineer has made Pakistan proud. “It is a gift for the family and friends of Muhammad Ali Sadpara,” he added.
On the occasion, Taha Saleem, Senior Director, KMC Horticulture Department, said, “Ali Sadpara will always be remembered as our national hero,” adding, “The tale of his love for the mountains, his passion and bravery will continue to inspire many.”
Muhammad Ali Sadpara, John Snorri Sigurjónsson of Iceland and Juan Pablo Mohr Prieto of Chile went missing on K2 on Febuary 5 while attempting an unprecedented winter ascent without supplemental oxygen.
The trio was last seen near Bottleneck – the most treacherous trek of K2 – by Sajid Sadpara, who was also part of the expedition but had to give up after his oxygen tank malfunctioned.
K2 had never been scaled in winter until only last month when a Nepalese team accomplished the feat.
