KHAIRPUR: At least six school children were crushed to death by a speeding passenger van in Khairpur city of Sindh on Monday morning.
According to details, the accident occurred near Kot Lalu town of the Khairpur district. Upon receiving information, local people rushed to the spot and shifted the deceased and injured to the nearest hospital on their own.
The local residents lamented a lack of response from the authorities concerned. Rescue sources have informed that three of the children died on the spot while the rest succumbed to their injuries at a hospital.
Later, enraged family members of the deceased children and local residents staged a protest against the district administration and transporters on Mehran National Highway, blocking it by setting fire to tyres.
Earlier in February, two children were killed and eight others were injured in a crash between a truck and a school van in Bahawalpur due to dense fog. The rescue teams shifted the deceased and injured children to the hospital.
