KARACHI: The number of confirmed coronavirus cases has surged to 37,218 in Pakistan today, while the death toll stands at 803.
The coronavirus cases rose to 2,310 in Balochistan after 71 more people were diagnosed with the infection earlier on Thursday. The spokesperson of Director General Health said that a number of 324 patients fully recovered from the disease in the province.
According to the national dashboard, confirmed positive cases reported in Sindh had risen to 14,099, in Punjab 13,914, in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa 5,423, in Islamabad 866, in Gilgit Baltistan 501, and in Azad Kashmir 105.
Out of a total of 803 deaths, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa has reported 284, Sindh 243, Balochistan 30, Gilgit-Baltistan 04, Punjab 234, and Islamabad Capital Territory has reported 07 deaths.
As many as 9,695 patients have recovered from the disease, while 153 are said to be critical as the country is still witnessing a consistent rise in the COVID-19 cases.
As per details, 21 percent of the cases have foreign travel history while 79 percent of the cases are reported to be locally transmitted.
The COVID-19 cases spread through local transmission have shown a dangerous upward trajectory in a recent report published by the World Health Organisation Pakistan chapter.
The report presented a dismal picture in terms of local transmission cases in the country, province by province, on a weekly basis. The report showed that Balochistan had the highest rate of local transmission at 93 percent, and only 7 percent were imported cases.
