A recent, eye-opening report uncovers Dubai’s real estate market as a haven for illicit funds from around the globe. Among those named in the report by the Organized Crime and Corruption Reporting Project’s Dubai Unlocked project are several Pakistanis, including former President Pervez Musharraf, current President Asif Ali Zardari, Bilawal Bhutto, along with over a dozen retired military officials, their families, bankers, and bureaucrats.
Titled ‘How Dirty Money Finds a Home in Dubai Real Estate’, the report delves into the intricate network that has made Dubai a sanctuary for global wealth. The investigation, undertaken by journalists from 74 organizations across 58 countries over six months, sheds light on Pakistanis as the second-largest group owning properties in Dubai, totaling $11 billion, with 17,000 individuals owning 23,000 properties.

Specifically, the report highlights properties linked to Asif Zardari’s family and Pervez Musharraf, as well as individuals like Roshan Hussain, Hussain Zahoor, and Obaid Khanani, the latter sanctioned by the U.S. in 2016 for alleged involvement in a money laundering scheme moving billions for drug traffickers and organized crime.
Moreover, it identifies individuals like Faisal Vawda, wife of Mohsin Naqvi, Hussain Nawaz, Sharjeel Memon, and several members of the Sindh and Balochistan Assemblies, alongside bureaucrats, a diplomat, and police chiefs, among others, in the roster of property owners in Dubai.
