Saima Mohsin has become the first Muslim woman attorney who has been appointed as the acting US attorney for Michigan’s Eastern District.
The 52-years-old attorney will take charge on 2nd Febuary by replacing Matthew Schneider, who had been serving for three years. Schneider announced his resignation last week and announced that Mohsin, currently the first assistant US attorney for eastern Michigan, will replace him.
Born in Pakistan, Mohsin has been working as a federal prosecutor since 2002 in the US Attorney’s Office. She graduated from Rutgers University in New Jersey, earning a bachelor’s degree and a law degree.

Mohsin became an assistant district attorney in New York City and then worked for the state of New Jersey’s Division of Criminal Justice, serving as a deputy attorney general in organized crime and racketeering.
In March 2018, Mohsin assumed the position of first assistant US attorney for the Eastern District of Michigan, a nonpolitical position, said the Justice Department.
