US-based companies led by Pakistani American entrepreneurs have pledged over $20 million investment in the Pakistani IT sector during a recently held Pakistan-US Tech Investment Conference in California, state-run Associated Press of Pakistan (APP) reported.
On Sunday, Rizwan Saeed Sheikh, Pakistan’s ambassador to the US, officially opened the event which was organized by the Pakistani Consulate in Los Angeles. The event was supported by The Pakistan Software Export Board (PSEB), the Ministry of Commerce, the Ministry of IT & Telecom, and the Trade Development Authority of Pakistan (TDAP).
IT companies, venture capitalists, tech professionals, and well-known members of the Pakistani diaspora were among the many attendees of the conference, which took place at Stanford University. Government officials and journalists also attended the event.
In her keynote speech, Pakistan’s IT Minister Shaza Fatima Khawaja reaffirmed the government’s steadfast dedication to developing the IT industry and hitting an ambitious $25 billion export goal. She urged the Pakistani diaspora to take advantage of these investor-friendly strategic initiatives.
According to Ms. Khawaja, Pakistan’s IT industry was flourishing, with exports already surpassing $3 billion. She said that the government remained fully committed to helping the IT sector, encouraging innovation, and making sure that the momentum kept driving advancements in both technology and the economy.
The PSEB delegation, led by its chief executive officer, included 11 Pakistani startups. A representative from the US State Department’s economic team for Pakistan also attended the event, reinforcing bilateral support from Washington.
