The Space and Upper Atmosphere Research Commission (Suparco) announced on Tuesday that Pakistan’s Multi Mission Communication Satellite, PAKSAT MM1, will be launched on May 30, 2024, from the XiChang Satellite Launch Centre (XSLC) in China. This initiative is part of the National Space Program 2047.
Earlier this month, Pakistan launched the satellite iCUBE-Qamar (ICUBE Q) aboard China’s Chang’e-6 lunar mission from Hainan, China. Marking a significant achievement in Pakistan’s space exploration efforts, the satellite successfully entered the moon’s orbit on May 8 and soon began transmitting the first images from lunar orbit.
Suparco emphasized that PAKSAT MM1 was developed to meet the country’s growing needs for communication and connectivity. The agency said that the satellite, with its advanced communication technologies, will play a crucial role in the socio-economic development of Pakistan.
“This satellite project is a hallmark of technological cooperation between the People’s Republic of China and Pakistan,” Suparco noted, highlighting the significant bilateral collaboration.
Suparco also mentioned that the launch ceremony will be broadcast live from its establishments in Karachi and Islamabad.
To date, Pakistan has successfully launched six space assets, including BADR-A, BADR-B, PAKSAT 1-R, PRSS-1, PakTes 1-A, and iCUBE-Qamar.
