The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) remains steadfast in its commitment to host all matches of the Champions Trophy 2025 in Pakistan, reiterating this stance ahead of the ICC’s annual meeting.
Speculations regarding alternative venues or a hybrid approach have surfaced recently, prompting discussions during the upcoming ICC meeting scheduled from July 19 to 22 in Colombo, Sri Lanka.
Chairman PCB Mohsin Naqvi is slated to attend the meeting where Pakistan’s unwavering position will be strongly advocated. Sources close to the matter emphasize that despite ongoing talks about contingency plans, PCB’s preparations at three venues across Pakistan are progressing diligently. Significant investments have been made to upgrade stadiums for the prestigious event.
“Pakistan is fully prepared to host all eight participating teams on home soil,” a PCB official stated. “While discussions about plan B or hybrid formats continue, our focus remains on delivering a seamless Champions Trophy experience in Pakistan.”
The issue of India’s participation remains contentious, given their historical reluctance to play in Pakistan. Sources suggest that PCB views India’s position on this matter as fragile, potentially impacting bilateral cricketing engagements in the future. Notably, if India opts out of the Champions Trophy, Pakistan could reciprocate by reconsidering its participation in the 2026 T20 World Cup scheduled in India.
In light of these developments, Pakistan aims to assert a robust stance during the ICC meeting, emphasizing the importance of honoring commitments made for hosting rights and ensuring cricket’s growth and stability in the region.
