GENEVA: The United Nations refugee agency has demanded that Pakistan should create a comprehensive mechanism to register illegal Afghans instead of deporting them.
Qaisar Khan Afridi, the spokesperson of the United Nations Refugee Agency, said that the return of Afghans could have serious consequences and their lives could also be threatened.
On the situation in Afghanistan, eight countries and the European Union also said in a joint statement that a registration system should be developed for undocumented Afghans and the protection of Afghans seeking protection should be ensured.
The US Department of State has said that Pakistan and other countries should fulfill their responsibility for Afghan refugees, and Afghanistan’s neighboring countries should allow Afghans seeking protection to enter.
It should be noted that the government of Pakistan had given a deadline of October 31 to the foreigners residing illegally in Pakistan to voluntarily leave the country, which has expired.
After the deadline given by the government, the illegal aliens are being caught and kept in holding points from where they will be deported to their country.
