ISLAMABAD: Pakistan reported more than three thousand coronavirus cases in a single day on Friday, as the Omicron variant rapidly across the country.
This is the second consecutive day Pakistan has reported over 3,000 cases, the highest level in nearly four months. The situation has been worsened by the Omicron variant which has seen cases surge.
According to the National Command and Operation Centre (NCOC), Pakistan reported 3,567 cases and seven deaths in the previous 24-hour period. The national tally of coronavirus cases has reached 1,315,834 while the death toll stands at 28,999.
The positivity ratio has risen to 7.36%, while the number of active has surged to 26,428 after the recent increase in cases. There were 48,449 tests conducted in the previous day leading to new cases.
There are 675 people who still remain in critical condition including 24 new patients in the previous day. Overall 1,260,407 people have recovered from the virus, including 362 in the past day.
Sindh has recorded the highest number of cases and remains the worst affected region. The province has recorded 494,064 cases and 7,693 deaths while there are 10,394 active cases.
Punjab has recorded 450,064 cases and 13,085 deaths, while the number of active cases in the province remains at 7,343. Islamabad has recorded 110,243 cases and 967 deaths while there are 1,432 active cases in the federal capital.
The number of cases in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa stands at 181,996 and 5,952 deaths, while Balochistan has recorded 33,682 cases and 367 deaths. Gilgit Baltistan had recorded 10,437 cases and 186 deaths while Azad Kashmir has recorded 34,726 cases and 749 deaths
