ISLAMABAD: Pakistan reported less than 3,000 new coronavirus cases on Wednesday, amid signs that the lockdown and other safety precautions imposed by the government are holding up.
According to the National Command and Operation Centre (NCOC), Pakistan reported another 2,869 cases and 104 deaths in the previous 24-hour period. The national tally of coronavirus cases has reached 867,438 while the death toll stands at 19,210.
This is the first time in almost two months that Pakistan has reported less than 3,000 coronavirus cases. On March 16, there were 2,351 new cases of the virus reported amid the surge during the third wave.
According to figures provided by the National Command and Operation Centre (NCOC), Pakistan carried out 38,616 coronavirus tests out of which 2,869 returned positive. The positivity ratio in Pakistan stands at 7.42%.
The number of active cases stands at 76,536 while there are 4,707 people remain in critical condition. Overall 771,692 people have recovered from the virus, including 5,200 in the past day.
Punjab remains the most affected region and has recorded 322,117 cases and 9,188 deaths, while the number of active cases in the province stands at 36,129. Islamabad has recorded 78,560 cases and 718 deaths while there are 10,031 active cases in the federal capital.
The number of coronavirus cases in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa has reached 125,392 and 3,668 deaths while there are 9,018 active cases in the province. Sindh has recorded 294,251 cases and 4,765 deaths while Balochistan has recorded 23,655 cases and 255 deaths.
