ISLAMABAD: Pakistan reported more than a hundred deaths from the coronavirus on Thursday, the highest in nearly three months as the situation worsens amid the fourth wave.
According to the National Command and Operation Centre (NCOC), Pakistan reported 4,934 cases and 102 deaths in the previous 24-hour period. The national tally of coronavirus cases has reached 1,085,294 while the death toll stands at 24,187.
The country last reported more than 100 deaths on May 20 this year. The positivity ratio was recorded at 8.30%. There were 59,397 tests conducted in the previous day leading to new cases. The number of active cases in the country has also increased to 85,633 amid the deteriorating situation.
There are 4,584 people who remain in critical condition including 72 new patients in the previous day. Overall 975,474 people have recovered from the virus, including 3,376 in the past day.
Sindh has recorded the highest number of cases and remains the worst affected region. The province has recorded 406,109 cases and 6,316 deaths while the number of active cases has reached 48,214.
Punjab has recorded 368,195 cases and 11,292 deaths, while the number of active cases in the province has reached 19,607. Islamabad has recorded 92,233 cases and 824 deaths while there are 4,812 active cases in the federal capital.
The number of cases in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa stands at 150,026 and 4,604 deaths, while Balochistan has recorded 31,341 cases and 332 deaths. Gilgit Baltistan had recorded 9,043 cases and 161 deaths while Azad Kashmir has recorded 28,347 cases and 658 deaths.
