Pakistan Railways has generated Rs 46 billion in revenue during the first half of the fiscal year 2024-25, reflecting the effectiveness of its policies and positive growth.
According to a report by Pak Observer on Friday, An official from the Ministry of Railways shared with APP that this marks a Rs 5 billion increase compared to the same period last year.
The revenue includes Rs 24 billion from passenger trains, Rs 16 billion from freight services, and Rs 6 billion from land leases, coaching, and other sources. The official noted that around 41.91 million passengers traveled by train in 2023-24, up from 35.40 million in 2022-23, showing an increase of 6.51 million.
For the fiscal year 2023-24, passenger earnings reached Rs 47.712 billion, surpassing the budgetary target by Rs 8.712 billion. This represents an increase of Rs 13.799 billion compared to the previous financial year.
To enhance passenger experience, Pakistan Railways has implemented several measures at stations and on trains, including modern dining cars, mobile charging sockets, and water dispensers for clean drinking water.
Additionally, Ticket Vending Machines (TVMs) have been installed, along with information counters, digital display boards for train schedules, and facilities like wheelchairs and ramps for disabled passengers.
In efforts to improve train punctuality, the department is addressing speed restrictions with track maintenance, upgrading the signaling system with computerized interlocking, ensuring timely locomotive maintenance, and introducing new passenger coaches.
To address passenger complaints, a state-of-the-art call center under Railway Automated Booking and Travelling Assistance (RABTA) has been set up. Passengers can also submit complaints via the website or complaint registers available at stations and on trains.
