Pakistan Railways on Tuesday announced a reduction of 25 percent on its fares on the eve of Eidul Azha which will be celebrated on Monday.
The concession will be for all classes of passenger trains. It will not apply to fares on Eid special trains and will be only for three days of Eid. According to Pakistan Railways, the cut in fares will only apply to current bookings.
Earlier the railways had cut the fares following a reduction in fuel prices in the country, however, the public is demanding more cuts permanently.
Railways serve as a primary and affordable mode of transportation for a significant number of Pakistanis residing in interior Sindh, Punjab, and Pakhtunkhwa Province. Every year, thousands of individuals from cities like Karachi, Quetta, and others embark on train journeys to reunite with their families and loved ones in their hometowns, especially during Eid celebrations.
For Eidul Adha this year, the government has once again announced the operation of three special trains: two originating from Karachi and one from Quetta. These special services aim to facilitate the annual tradition of familial reunions during the festive occasion.
