ISLAMABAD: The Ministry of Aviation has announced new policy guidelines for drone cameras, requiring mandatory registration with the Civil Aviation Authority (CAA).
According to the updated regulations published on the Ministry of Aviation’s website, all unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs), commonly known as drones, must be registered under the newly established “Civil Unmanned Aircraft Rules, 2024”.
Existing drone owners must apply for registration within four months of the rules’ enforcement. Those acquiring drones after the implementation date have a 15-day window to complete their registration process. Each registered UAV will be issued a unique alphanumeric identifier, and applicants must specify the intended use of their drones in their registration applications.
Moreover, individuals are restricted from registering more than three drones within the same category per calendar year. Drones are categorized based on their maximum take-off weight into four groups: Category-I (up to 250 grams), Category-II (more than 250 grams but up to 10 kilograms), Category-III (more than 10 kilograms but up to 25 kilograms), and Category-IV (more than 25 kilograms but up to 100 kilograms).
