NEW YORK: Ambassador Munir Akram on Saturday said that Pakistan has always attached utmost importance to UN membership.
Munir Akram in his message on the occasion of the United Nations’ 75th anniversary said that he joined the United Nations immediately after independence. He said that Pakistan actively participated in respecting and promoting the basic principles of the UN Charter.
Akram said that Pakistan is the largest contingent of countries participating in UN peacekeeping services. According to him, Pakistan’s future envoy, economic and social cooperation has been actively promoted through UN organizations.
He said that Pakistan has served in the Security Council five times. Munir Akram said that Pakistan was elected to the Human Rights Council for the fifth time since its inception in 2005. He said that Pakistan has chaired the Economic and Social Council six times.

Moreover, Prime Minister Imran Khan also sent a message on the occasion of the 75th anniversary of the United Nations, marking the historic day when the global body was officially founded.
The prime minister said the world is celebrating this momentous occasion when 75 years ago, the founding fathers came established an international system to ‘save the succeeding generations from the scourge of war’.
PM Imran Khan said that Pakistan is proud to play its part in upholding universal values to protect and safeguard human rights and fundamental freedoms for all.
