LONDON: A senior Pakistani military official filed a defamation lawsuit against a UK-based YouTuber and retired army officer Major (retired) Adil Raja before the London High Court for waging a defamation campaign against him on Twitter and YouTube.
According to Geo News, Brigadier Rashid Naseer, who is currently in charge of the Punjab branch of the Pakistan Army’s Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI), filed a defamation lawsuit against Major (ret.) Raja over nearly a dozen YouTube and Twitter publications that contained false and baseless allegations. This is the first time a serving Pakistani military officer has ever filed a defamation lawsuit in the UK High Court.
Brigadier Rashid Naseer claimed that he was accused of horse-trading for General (retired) Qamar Javed Bajwa, engaging in election rigging against the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaaf (PTI), and holding covert meetings with PPP Co-Chairman Asif Ali Zardari to influence Punjab by-elections.
According to the court papers, Major (retd) Raja started his campaign against Brigadier Rashid Naseer on June 14, 2022, when he in a tweet accused ISI’s Sector Commander Punjab “has taken complete occupation of the Lahore High Court” to rig the upcoming elections.

On June 19, 2022, Major (retd) Raja alleged that “allegedly ISI Sector Commander Punjab Brig Naseer had several meetings with Zardari during the latter’s current stay in Lahore.
The subject stated: “Elections Manipulation” and he went on to post a link to his YouTube video making further allegations.
