RAWALPINDI: The first Test between England and Pakistan could be delayed by a day after the tourists’ squad was affected by an illness.

The reports of possible delay emerged when the veiling of Pak-England test trophy, scheduled for today, was put off, and a number of England players including captain Ben Stokes did not participate in the practice session as they have been asked to take rest due to illness.

According to multiple reports, approximately 13 to 14 members of the touring party are affected by the illness, with around half of that number members of the playing squad.
The PCB and ECB are in discussions regarding the commencement of the 1st #PAKvENG Test as some England players are down with viral infection. The PCB continues to monitor the situation, is in contact with the ECB and will provide further updates in due course.

Thursday’s match is England’s first Test in Pakistan for 17 years.
Earlier, speaking to media, batter Joe Root said: “It’s not the worst thing if we have to wait to make sure the game isn’t cancelled.”
