LAHORE: Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) Vice-President Maryam Nawaz has claimed that a breakaway group of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) lawmakers are in contact with her party, saying the reality is that they don’t want to fight elections from the PTI ticket in the next general elections.
The PML-N leader while addressing a press conference in Lahore on Saturday said the breakaway group, which comprises the supposed 40 lawmakers backing Jahangir Tareen, is much larger than that.
“Let the elections be announced. You will see the drama disclosed,” the PML-N leader said. The unhappy PTI legislators could not bear the burden of PM Imran Khan’s “incompetence” anymore, she said, adding “The group is much bigger than what you have seen.”
Maryam Nawaz likened the cabinet reshuffle to “exchanging one set of filthy clothes with another”, and so of “no advantage”. She said the only solution to the country’s issues was to send PM Khan’s government packing.
Speaking on PPP parting ways with the Pakistan Democratic Movement (PDM), Maryam said it was only the party’s decision to leave the Opposition’s coalition. “It would’ve been better had this not happened,” she added.
Maryam Nawaz said that her remarks about the party had sought help with the BAP came from an ethical position and she had no option to make such a statement.
Speaking of the sugar issue, which has led to some shops only offering the necessary goods to a limited extent to each family, she said “citizens are being handed sugar as if they are beggars”.
On her Karachi visit, The PML-N vice president said she had postponed it to guard the lives and health of the people. “The people of NA-249 should ensure they take (coronavirus) safety measures when going to the polls.”
Maryam said that she took the decision after talking to her father Nawaz Sharif and Leader of the Opposition in the National Assembly Shehbaz Sharif.
