KARACHI: More than a hundred activists of the Tehreek-e-Labaik Pakistan (TLP) have been arrested across Karachi for violent protests across the city over the arrest of their leader in Lahore.
Police have registered more than a dozen cases and arrested more than a hundred activists including TLP Karachi chief Mufti Mubarak for inciting workers. One suspect was arrested for creating commotion during a rally in District South.
Police cordoned the emergency room of Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre (JPMC) and arrested TLP Karachi chief Mufti Muhammad Mubarak Abbasi. He was detained under Maintenance of Public Order (MPO) and sent to jail.
The TLP leader had come to visit injured workers and offer condolences to the families of the activists killed in the protests. Police also arrested TLP election cell representative Mohammad Abid Qadri as activists raised slogans in the premises of the hospital.
Police have launched operations and started arresting those involved in the incidents. Five cases were registered in East District including in New Town, PIB, Jamshed Quarters and Soldier Bazaar. At least thirty people have been arrested in District East.
SSP Malir Irfan Bahadur said Star Gate area in Malir district has been most affected and a heavy contingent of police was brought to bring the situation under control. He said police have arrested 16 people involved in the riot and a case has been registered at the Airport Police Station.
Kharadar police have registered a case in South District. DIG South Javed Akbar Riaz said that the lowest protest was in South District but the Old City area was affected. He said police arrested suspect Rashid Qadri who belongs to TLP. The accused was active in sit-ins and there are already cases against him.
Kharadar police have registered a case for attacking a police vehicle and injuring police personnel. Police have arrested 21 people on charges of rioting while three policemen were also injured by stone pelting and vehicles were also damaged.
District Central Police Station in New Karachi Police arrested 35 activists involved in rioting and arson and registered a case against them and handed over the accused to the Investigation Department.
Orangi Town Police has registered a case on the complaint of SHO Sub-Inspector Kamran Asher in which the Section 7 of the Anti-Terrorism Act and other provision have been included.
During the rioting near Orangi Town No. 5, enraged people attacked the Rapid Response Force (RRF) personnel and armoured vehicles. More than a dozen policemen were injured in the incident.
Police registered a case against ten suspects and other unidentified persons while Mominabad police also registered a case under ATA provisions. A case has been registered against 30 unidentified persons for attacking policemen.
