KARACHI: Religious conflicts have once again erupted in Sindh capital as an investigation has been launched into the murder of a landowner over a plot dispute to build a mosque in Surjani Town, leading to rising tension in the area, and panic among the people.
According to sources, a dispute was going on over a plot of 800 hundred yards in Sector 4B of Surjani Town. One party was adamant about building a mosque on the land, while the Shia owner refused to lend the land. As per the reports from the area, tensions are rising between the two sects over the land dispute and today the landowner Jahanzeb Aslam Zaidi was killed and Syed Shamsul Hassan Zaidi was injured in a dispute between the two sides.
Sources said that the situation has become tense after the statement of injured Syed Shamsul Hassan Zaidi while the police have assured to arrest Irfan Memon, an accused involved in the firing, soon.
Residents of the area said that there was a dispute over the construction of a mosque on the land for the last three months but no action was taken by the police and other agencies due to which this tragic incident has taken place today.
Informed sources said that in view of the threat of Shia-Sunni clashes in Surjani, sympathizers of both groups have started arriving in Surjani from different parts of the city and tensions are rising in the area.
