In the first six months of 2024, over 750,000 Pakistanis have left the country for a better life. This number is almost double compared to the same period in 2023.
According to official data, 789,837 people went abroad for better employment opportunities in the first half of the current year. In contrast, 811,469 Pakistanis left the country for better job prospects throughout the entire year of 2023.
The Bureau of Immigration’s Deputy Director Abdul Shakoor informed the media that there were issues with visa issuance from Saudi Arabia in the fiscal year 2024. He added that the United Arab Emirates issued visas in professional categories during this period, noting an increasing demand for professional workers in the USA and Europe as well.
Intellectuals in the country are terming this emigration as a brain drain, urging the government to improve the working and business environment to retain talent. They warn that if conditions do not improve, more people will opt to leave Pakistan.
On social media, there is a growing trend where some individuals are advising their fellow countrymen to leave if they have the option. They argue that the future in Pakistan is bleak due to economic crises, historical inflation, poor governance, and the perceived luxurious lifestyles of the ruling elite funded by the taxes of the poor. They believe leaving the country is a better option for the future of their children.
