Fast bowler Anrich Nortje has been named in South Africa’s 15-man squad for the Champions Trophy one-day international tournament, scheduled to take place in Pakistan next month.
The 31-year-old has not featured in a 50-over match since September 2023, when he sustained a stress fracture. Nortje made a strong comeback during the T20 World Cup last June, emerging as South Africa’s leading bowler, but has not played an international match since the final against India in Barbados.
Fellow pacer Lungi Ngidi is also set to return after recovering from a groin injury that sidelined him during South Africa’s home international season.
Before the Champions Trophy, South Africa will participate in a triangular series in Pakistan, facing the hosts and New Zealand. However, the team may need to make squad adjustments for this series due to a scheduling conflict with the final stages of the SA20 franchise tournament.
South African squad: Temba Bavuma (captain), Tony de Zorzi, Marco Jansen, Heinrich Klaasen (wkt), Keshav Maharaj, Aiden Markram, David Miller, Wiaan Mulder, Lungi Ngidi, Anrich Nortje, Kagiso Rabada, Ryan Rickelton (wkt), Tabraiz Shamsi, Tristan Stubbs, Rassie van der Dussen.
